Derek Jacobi to star in Donmar Warehouse's King Lear at Hall for Cornwall (news)

Derek Jacobi is set to perform one of Shakespeare’s most iconic roles at Truro’s Hall for Cornwall next year, in the Donmar Warehouse’s new production of King Lear.

The show opens at the Donmar Warehouse, Covent Garden, on December 3, and the Truro dates are part of an eight-week national tour.

Michael Grandage, artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse, said: “I believe Derek Jacobi’s King Lear will be an event that deserves to be seen beyond the Donmar Warehouse and I’m delighted we are expanding our UK touring programme.

“It means a Donmar production featuring one of our finest Shakespearean actors will be available to more people than we could ever hold in our Covent Garden home.”

Grandage, who will direct King Lear, and Jacobi have previously worked together on Donmar Warehouse productions of The Tempest, Don Carlos and Twelfth Night.

As well as his work at the Donmar Warehouse, Jacobi has played a number of iconic roles on both stage and screen, including his famed performance in the television series I, Claudius.

He will be joined in the cast by Pippa Bennett-Warner, Ron Cook and Gina McKee, while the creative team includes Christopher Oram, Neil Austin and Adam Cork – the Tony Award-winning team behind the Broadway hit, Red.

Donmar Warehouse’s King Lear is at Hall for Cornwall from April 11 to 16, 2011. Tickets are available from the HfC website.
