Jazz-funk legends the James Taylor Quartet are set to visit Exeter Phoenix and Bristol Tunnels this spring as part of a UK tour.
One of the great British instrumentalists of his generation, James Taylor is ready again to take his trademark howling Hammond sound out on the road.
The James Taylor Quartet‘s first single, Blow Up, was released on the Re-Elect The President (Acid Jazz) label back in 1985.
It was a huge success, immediately attracting the attention of legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel. The track appeared three years running on Peel’s seminal Festive Fifty chart.
After an impressive 13 weeks on the Indie Singles Chart, the band set to work on their debut EP, titled Mission Impossible.
By the time the band’s second record, The Money Spyder, was released in 1987, their attention was being drawn away from a recording career to their now massive live audience.
The band’s constant touring and their emphasis on live ‘dance’ music has always been the key to their success, enabling them to establish a solid relationship between them and their fans.
Still famed for their upbeat, energetic live shows, the band shows absolutely no signs of slowing down.
In fact, the group’s latest album, The Template, marks their 25th year as a barrier-breaking institution of the British funk and soul scene.
James Taylor Quartet hit Exeter Phoenix on March 10, 2012, and Bristol Tunnels on April 28, 2012.
