Spectra exhibition at Harbour House in Kingsbridge (news)

An exhibition of new paintings by Spectra – aka Cherry Lyons, Wendy Chudley and Jenni Pentecost – is at Harbour House in Kingsbridge this summer.

The artists told SouthWestShows: “Colour and texture have a lasting effect on everyone’s lives, and are particularly relevant to us as artists.

“Nature offers us a rich tapestry of colours and textural glory in every season of the year and in each facet of the land, hedgerow, riverside or seascape.

“Embarking on a voyage of discovery with colour and texture, we capture the drama and essence of place in our paintings, whether realistic or imaginary.”

Cherry Lyons is an experimental watercolour, oil, acrylics, pastel and mixed media artist.

She particularly enjoys the risks and challenges of unpredictable and spontaneous watercolour techniques.

Cherry adds texture to her work by collaging with organic elements, and her themes include the sea, landscapes and wildlife from her worldwide travels.

Wendy Chudley is particularly inspired by light and mood, and enjoys experimenting with colour, sometimes layering, and sometimes limiting her palette to evoke the nostalgia of monochrome photographs.

Her themes include seascape, landscape, nature and wildlife, and she works in watercolour, pastels and Artisan oils.

Jenni Pentecost draws inspiration from nature and the coastline of the West Country, and is particularly interested in seasonal changes in colour, light and mood.

She works mainly in oils and pastels, and enjoys experimenting with new techniques, pictured.

The Spectra exhibition is at Harbour House in Kingsbridge from May 15 to 27, 2012. Cherry and Jenni will give painting demonstrations in the gallery on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11am. Everybody is welcome, and admission is free. More details on the Harbour House website.
