Critically-acclaimed indie darlings The xx are the latest act announced for the 2013 Eden Sessions at the Eden Project in St Austell.
They join comedian Eddie Izzard, who plays in June, on next summer’s line-up at the Eden Project with more acts to be announced soon.
The xx released their second studio album Coexist this September and hit the top of the UK album charts as well as making it into the US top ten.
Coexist follows the London trio’s eponymous platinum-selling debut album which won the Mercury Music Prize in 2009 and was ranked highly in many best of the year lists, including second in the NME and the top ten in Rolling Stone.
Last year they were nominated in three categories at the BRIT Awards – Best British Band, Best British Album and Best British Breakthrough.
The xx have forged a distinctive understated ambient indie pop sound and a number of their tracks have been used in soundtracks for TV shows and at events such as the Euro 2012 football tournament.
Debut album opener Intro was also used by the BBC in their coverage of the 2010 general election.
They have a reputation for powerful live performances and their show at this year’s Bestival drew what is said to be the largest crowd in the history of the festival.
The Eden Sessions are set to enter their 12th year in 2013 following an acclaimed series of gigs in 2012 headlined by Blink-182, Plan B, Tim Minchin, Chase & Status, Noah and the Whale, The Vaccines, Example and Frank Turner.
The xx hit Eden Sessions on July 2, 2013. Tickets cost £35 plus booking fee and go on general sale at 5pm on January 3, 2013, from the Eden Sessions website.
