Sarah Jayne Dunn and Charlie G Hawkins will star in a stage adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’s bestselling novel Birdsong at Theatre Royal Plymouth and Hall for Cornwall this spring.
A mesmerising story of love, courage and sacrifice during the Great War, Birdsong is brought to the stage in this critically acclaimed production.
In pre-war France, a young Englishman, Stephen Wraysford, embarks on a passionate and dangerous affair with the beautiful Isabelle Azaire that turns their world upside down.
As war breaks out, Stephen must lead his men through the carnage of the Battle of the Somme, clinging to the memory of Isabelle as his world explodes around him.
Recently aired over Christmas on BBC One and following on from the hit West End production, this new adaptation marks the very first touring production of the play.
Birdsong stars award-winning actress Sarah Jayne Dunn (Drop Dead Gorgeous, Hollyoaks), Charlie G Hawkins (EastEnders), Arthur Bostrom of ‘Allo ‘Allo! fame, Tim Van Eyken (War Horse), Tim Treloar (RSC, National Theatre) and introduces newcomer Jonathan Smith as Stephen Wraysford.
