Legendary multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and record producer Todd Rundgren will visit O2 Academy Bristol this summer as part of his Official State Visit tour.
An acclaimed record producer, composer, songwriter, and recording artist, Todd Rundgren is widely regarded as the godfather of the marriage of music and multimedia.
Having founded and fronted The Nazz, the quintessential power-pop psychedelic band, in 1969 he left that band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut offering, the classic Runt.
It was 1972’s seminal Something/Anything?, on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight.
His best-known songs include Hello It’s Me and I Saw the Light, which have heavy rotation on classic rock radio stations, and Bang the Drum All Day, which is featured in many sports arenas, commercials, and movie trailers.
Although lesser known, Couldn’t I Just Tell You has had a major influence on artists in the power-pop musical genre.
Among Rundgren’s impressive 50+ production projects are albums by Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, Hall & Oates, and Meat Loaf‘s multi-platinum debut Bat Out Of Hell.
Rudgren is back with his 24th solo record, titled State, on April 8. No album is complete without a tour, and Rundgren plans to perform a selection of material new and old on his newly-announced UK roadtrip, which will see him performing seven gigs across the country this June.
Todd Rundgren hits O2 Academy Bristol on June 13, 2013. Tickets are on sale now.
